Konrad Wolf Prize 2023 goes to Julian Assange

Award Ceremony

The Akademie der Künste will award the 2023 Konrad Wolf Prize to the journalist Julian Assange. From the jury’s statement: “‘We open governments’ so that we know. It is a democratic act. Julian Assange is a worthy laureate, who with his WikiLeaks project has exposed illegal government activity, wartime lies, war crimes and cover-ups. His work embodies journalistic awareness-building at its best, and aims to change the world by democratic means—something that is direly needed…”

The entire text of the jury statement can be found in the news section.

We welcome Stella Assange, lawyer and wife of Julian Assange, to the event. She will receive the prize.

Change of programme at short notice: Akademie President Jeanine Meerapfel will be substituted by Presidential Secretary Bettina C. Huber.
