100 Years of Bauhaus The Triadic Ballet

Dance

As a co-production of the Bayerisches Staatsballett with the Akademie der Künste, supported by the Tanzfonds Erbe der Bundeskulturstiftung, in 2014 the new production resulted in an unforgettable dance event of the 20th century: Oskar Schlemmer's "Triadic Ballet" in Gerhard Bohner's choreography commissioned by the Akademie in 1977. Bohner's congenial, timeless new version of the legendary costume ballet from 1922, with an original composition by Hans-Joachim Hespos, was a global success which revived Schlemmer's major theatre experiment of the Bauhaus period.

In the new production in 2014 with the Bayerisches Staatsballett II under the direction of ballet director Ivan Liška and with ballet legend Colleen Scott, who danced almost every performance as first soloist in Bohner's production for an entire decade, the young ensemble ensured the legendary ballet was at last once again performed for audiences all over the world.

The costumes reconstructed precisely by Bohner in 1977 with stage designer Ulrike Dietrich according to Schlemmer from the Akademie's Gerhard Bohner archive and reworked by Susanne Stehle are presented in full expressiveness and beauty in the "cheerfully burlesque", "festively worn", "mythically fantastic" moods of the three-piece ballet.
