Performative book presentation

Is there any other way to engage with the present other than through the spaces in between? riss is a book of laconic perspectives on irrational conditions. Through brief texts – light, skewed poems – and snapshots of everyday life, glimmers of hope are sought out in that which appears to be marginal. False rhymes and a sober gaze are celebrated as forms suited to a time when reason and logic no longer guide social behaviour.

As a mirror onto a precarious time, the interplay between text and image reveals a precision within vagueness – a dramaturgy of the in-between. Following the gentle tribute to musician Jaki Liebezeit (Jaki Notes), riss is the second book by the author duo Manos Tsangaris and Stefan Kraus. For the book launch, a performative version will be created in which Tsangaris’ poems, Kraus’ light images and the cello performance by Hyun-Jung Berger engage in dynamic interplay.

An event in the context of “Widerstand der Ästhetik” (Resistance of Aesthetics)

At a time when the narrative styles of social media, short clips, fake news and AI are becoming a political power factor, a resistant, ultimately enlightening aesthetic is becoming a duty. However, it often unfolds its power precisely when it is not overtly political. How can resistance then succeed? The Akademie is devoting a series of events to this question.
