Vita

Cemile Sahin studied fine art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and at Berlin University of the Arts. Her works range between film, photography, sculpture, sound and text. She addresses the question of how and where history occurs and how this is portrayed. The starting points are found images, archive materials and texts that Cemile Sahin restages in her works. By doing so, she delves into the question as to how history and the way it is told change when constructed through the narratives of different perspectives.

Residency

“For the residency, I am planning a new video work, which will be a continuation of the mini series Center Shift that I began last year. A new episode shall be created, in which the main protagonists address the retelling of experienced history through re-enactment. The focus will be on two texts written by me, which overlap and examine the relationship between word and image and the effective power of temporality.”
